Mother’s Day is sometimes a mixed bag. Some love the holiday, others would rather skip it altogether. Whatever your stance, we hope you have the best Mother’s Day possible. If you’re a mom, here’s a few local ideas to suggest to others or to tackle on your own to make the day extra special.

Bouquet of flowers sitting in a wicker basketTreat yourself to brunch at home

Bergerac Bistro is offering Mother’s Day Brunch Kits to-go. Tell someone else to sort out the details and enjoy the delightful cuisine of this popular French restaurant. You can even add a bottle of rose sparkling, to boot!

Walk (and smell) the roses

Join in for the 9th annual Mother’s Day Reigning Roses Walk in northwest Portland. As they say, “Walk with or in honor of, a special woman in your life – a mother, grandmother, daughter, partner or friend.” Participation is free, donations recommended. All proceeds benefit Rose Haven, the only day shelter and community center specifically serving women, children, and gender-diverse people in Portland.

Grab goodies at the market

Providore Fine Foods in northeast Portland is offering a wide variety of gifts, as well as a takeout brunch option. Go shop on your own and gaze at the goodies or drop subtle hints as to what you would enjoy! Grab the flowers, food, and wine in on location!

Head to the movies

Time away at the movies is a great gift to yourself anytime. To really ramp it up for the holiday, grab another mom in your life and catch the Hollywood Theater’s Mother’s Day screening of “Mommie Dearest.” Yes, this is really a thing! IYKYK.

Enjoy outdoor wine tasting

Make the trek out to scenic Dundee to visit Knudsen Vineyards for their Mother’s Day wine tasting event. Try out a flight of sparkling wine, rose, and pinot noir, with available add-ons such as lunch, a charcuterie board, or even a kids’ “flight” of juices. Rumor has it they also have spa and gardening to-go kits, too!

Visit Portland’s “Mystic District”

Shopping can be enjoyable, but some things are better experienced without little ones in tow. To truly experience the three-shop “Mystic District” in northeast Portland, you may want to leave the kids at home. Get in touch with the Earth Mother in you and peruse crystals, tarot cards, and other witchy wares in this small stretch of town. Who knows? You might even get a reading…

Bring the spa home to you

Indulge in some self-care items from local shops such as Roots & Crowns, Loyly, or Blendily, and bring the spa home! Reserve a few hours for yourself (VERY IMPORTANT) to relax in luxury and take some time to unwind. Maybe follow that by curling up with a book in a cozy nook. Or a nap? Or spa then book then nap? Yessss…

However you choose to spend it, we wish you a wonderful, fabulous, and rejuvenating Mother’s Day!
