Ah… spring has sprung! It’s a wonderful season for family fun in and around Rose City, with an explosion of outdoor fairs and festivals. Below are a few great options for getting out and about this month. Know of some other good ones? Kodomo no Hi, Children’s Day

Portland Japanese Garden

Celebrate the “growth and good fortune of children” on May 5th at the Portland Japanese Garden with Taiko drumming, a scavenger hunt, and crafts.

Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest

Extended until May 8!

Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm

If you thought you missed out on this year’s Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest, fret not. Due to the colder weather this year, the event has ben extended to run until May 8. Get out and enjoy the fields of tulips, food, and cow wagons before the season ends. Great photo opportunities for local families! Lunar New Year Dragon Dance Parade and Celebration

This free event will celebrate the Lunar New Year with a 150-foot dragon, lion dancers, and a community parade through Old Town and beyond. Find your perfect spot to perch to enjoy by checking out the parade route!

McMenamin’s UFO Fest

May 13-14, 10:30am – 2:30pm

McMinneville Oregon

A “festival for believers and skeptics alike,” UFO Fest is a family-friendly event that your kids will love! The 22nd annual edition includes speakers, live music, a 5K and kids’ fun run, and the popular UFO Costume Parade. Most events are free, check out the details on the UFO Fest’s website.

Oregon International Air Show

May 20-22, hours vary
Hillsboro Airport

Kick off the weekend event with fireworks on Friday night, gates open at 6pm. The Oregon International Air Show celebrates this year with the theme, “She flies with her own wings,” because this year features an all-female air show! Enjoy the best of aviation with a variety of ticket options.

Multnomah County Fair

May 28-30, 12pm – 7pm
Oaks Amusement Park

Enjoy three days of fun – performances, a car show, animal activities, pioneer village, and competitive exhibits at Oaks Amusement Park! Check out the schedule on the Fair’s website, and plot out if you want to be there for the Spiderman and Minions meet-and-greet, the Wiener dog race, or the Encanto sing-a-long!

Portland Rose Festival

Tom McCall Waterfront Park

Enjoy carnival rides, interactive exhibits, ongoing entertainment and festival food at one of the Portland-area’s largest outdoor festivals of the year. Everything happens on Tom McCall Waterfront Park between May 27-June 12, with the exception of the popular parades in June. Opening night fireworks are May 27, 6-10pm!
