In 2020, the team at PMC was in the midst of organizing an indoor egg hunt event for Portland families when the pandemic cut our plans short. Like so many other things that year, the egg hunt was cancelled and we all hunkered down last Easter. Now in 2021, after a full year of experiencing our “new normal,” we knew an indoor event was not in the cards, but we wanted to celebrate all the same. So we took our event on the road with mobile visits with the Easter Bunny!
With the event sold out, we packed in visits across the Portland metro area over two days. By the end of the weekend, we had one very tired bunny! From Lake Oswego to Vancouver, the Easter Bunny hopped from house-to-house, covering the eastside on Saturday and the westside on Sunday. Newborns to nine-year-olds gathered on porches or driveways to say hello and enjoy the bunny’s home-delivered goodies. The Easter bunny brought toy-filled eggs, paint-your-own cookies, temporary tattoos, sidewalk chalk, coloring papers, a scavenger-hunt, and a paw-written note!
We loved seeing the various reactions from the kids during the visits, and even the smiles from people at stoplights along our route. It’s not every day you see the Easter Bunny in a passenger seat. Lots of families sent us photos of their kids enjoying the bunny’s gifts, and a few even sent along their final cookie masterpieces.
THANK YOU to everyone who booked a visit with the Easter Bunny. Itwas delightful connecting with PMC families across the metro area at a time when larger-scale events are on hold. While we can’t wait to hosting more in-person events when it feels safe to do so, we may still continue offering mobile visits for families. We know some kids might get overwhelmed or overstimulated in larger groups, and it was great to be able to bring some joy to children on their front porch or in their yard.
For now, we have a virtual event, Bloom, planned for October 2-3, 2021. This event is for new and expecting moms who will have the opportunity to connect with experts in prenatal and postpartum care, and to meet with others who are pregnant or just had a baby. More details coming soon!
