Oregon Coast Getaway: Our Family Weekend in Manzanita

1

A WEEKEND AWAYLast month we spent a long weekend in Manzanita–a great little town to take your family for a weekend away! And since it’s only about 90 minutes from Portland, it’s a pretty easy drive to make with your little ones. (The easiest way to get there is to drive down Hwy 26 and then head south on 101. If you have more time, you can also head down through Hwy 6 and then head north on 101.) There are a couple of cute little hotels, a state park with yurts and camping, and a number of beach houses to rent. Hare are a few of the highlights from our trip:

Manzanita Coffee Company (60 Laneda Av – 1 block to the beach)

I started each morning with a delicious almond latte from the Manzanita Coffee Company. My little guy also enjoyed the pumpkin coffee cake and berry scone! This little town seems to have a coffee shop or bakery on every corner, so there is a lot to choose from!

Wisteria Chic (387 Laneda Ave # B)

I loved this store. Not only does it have some of the most adorable children’s clothing and accessories, but there is plenty for mom there as well. I found a great canvas bag for myself and an amazingly unique bread board for a wedding shower gift. My sister and I laughed our tushes off at some of the unique greeting cards they have as well.

Morning Yoga

While my husband and son slept in, I snuck in a quick yoga class on Saturday morning. The studio was bright and inviting and had all of the essentials – mats, blocks and bolsters. Christa Grimm is an amazing yoga instructor!

Nehalem State Park

This park has a day-use areas as well as a campground for tents and yurts to rent. Recreational vehicles, horse riders, hikers and bicyclists will all find something fun to do. There is also an amphitheater with interpretative programs throughout the summer months.

So much fun on the Oregon Coast!

The Beach!

The beach, of course, is the main attraction. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t get much better than the Oregon Coast when it comes to being a kid. The beach in Manzanita is wide, with lots of sand for the little ones to run free. We brought a bucket and a kite with us and it provided hours of entertainment, not to mention it completely tuckered our little guy out.

Where’s your favorite spot on the Oregon Coast?
