The New Mommy Makeover

1

Every mom experiences changes to her body following pregnancy and childbirth. However, if such changes are negatively affecting your comfort or self-confidence, you may wish to take action.

If you have considered a cosmetic procedure, but completely dismissed the idea because you’ve heard that surgery is your only option, don’t give up hope. An all or nothing mentality need not apply when you want to look and feel your best.

{We’d like to thank accomplished educator and Oregon plastic surgeon Dr. Kiya Movassaghi for providing and sponsoring this post.}

you-can-get-a-mommy-makeover-without-surgery, non-surgical cosmetic proceduresRethinking the mommy makeover with non-surgical treatments

Traditionally, a mommy makeover combines surgical procedures—a breast lift, liposuction, and/or tummy tuck—to restore body contours after childbearing. Improvements are dramatic, but the procedures can require a considerable amount of downtime that may not be feasible for new moms.

Moreover, not everyone is looking for a dramatic change—many of our patients would like to take just an inch or two off their bellies or simply appear less tired.

Over the last few years, we’ve experienced a kind of renaissance in non-surgical aesthetic technology.

We now have a variety of safe, cost-effective options to tighten skin, shrink fat bulges, minimize wrinkles, and brighten the complexion. Virtually all of these can be done in a 30 to 90 minute office appointment with no special preparation or downtime. Because they are minimally invasive, patients can safely receive treatment sooner after having a baby, and they make a great interim solution for those plan to have more children.

When combined strategically, these treatments can achieve results that are more subtle than surgery, but just as satisfying for the right patient. Here are a few of the most popular options at our Eugene plastic surgery practice.

Address excess fat on the belly, hips, thighs or chin with CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting® uses cooling technology to reduce pockets of unwanted fat without incisions or needles. CoolSculpting takes 30 to 60 minutes to perform and, with one treatment, many patients see the treated fat deposit shrink by about 20%. The affected fat cells are naturally absorbed by the body. Full results are evident after two to three months and last as long as you maintain your weight.

CoolSculpting is also a great option to accompany cosmetic breast surgery for those who want a more traditional breast-body mommy makeover but who cannot take the time needed for a tummy tuck recovery.

Tighten loose, sagging skin with Exilis

Loose skin on the belly is a common effect of childbearing, as the skin stretches during pregnancy but fails to contract to its pre-baby state. Exilis uses radio frequency to break down a portion of the fat cells in an area and prompt the skin to produce new collagen, which results in a firmer, smoother skin quality. Treatment is comfortable, quick, and downtime-free, and results typically last for a year or longer.

While a tummy tuck is usually needed to address more extensive sagging tissues, Exilis can provide a very nice improvement if you have mild to moderately loose skin and would like to see a firmer, smoother appearance in this area.

Soften wrinkles and refresh your appearance: BOTOX, Fillers & Skin Care

Sleepless nights and the stress of parenting can make visible signs of aging more apparent. Facial rejuvenation is a key component of the new mommy makeover, as refreshing the face can have a positive effect on your overall appearance.

Facial rejuvenation is a key component of the new mommy makeover.

Injectable treatments are a popular choice to erase wrinkles or restore volume to regions of the face. BOTOX® is excellent for softening expression lines around the eyes or forehead, while we’ll use fillers such as Juvederm®, VOLUMA®, or Restylane® to restore volume to the cheeks and lips as well as smooth creases around the nose or mouth. Injections take 15 to 20 minutes to perform and results last four months to two years, depending on the product.

In-office skin treatments such as facials, chemical peels, and resurfacing treatments can address acne, blotchiness, and fine lines, offering months of smoother, more radiant skin while helping skincare products work more effectively.

Choose a qualified provider for safety and optimal results

Not everyone who performs BOTOX injections or fat reduction treatments in the Portland area is equally qualified. Don’t trust your health and appearance to the practice with the best special going; a board certified plastic surgeon has the extensive training, knowledge of human anatomy, and experience needed to perform cosmetic treatments safely and correctly.

If you are interested in rejuvenating your appearance, I invite you to contact my office in Eugene to schedule a consultation. I will be happy to help you learn about your options and design an effective treatment plan that will fit into your schedule and budget.

  1. How much to remove excess skin. Tighten the stomach and everywhere? What about breast lift after nursing? Can someone with health issues do this. This would be a dream come true
