The Pinterest Mom’s Guide to Simple Home Organization

3

If you are like me, you are on Pinterest constantly checking ideas on how to make your home beautiful. Personally, I love the farmhouse/vintage style decor. But before I can decorate and beautify our home, I have to clean and organize. Cleaning may sound tedious, boring, and exhausting. Believe me when I say I often procrastinate. I can’t tell you how many times I have run around the house rummaging through everything to find my car keys, or the multiple times I have tossed out the entire closet just to find a pair of socks! After all that, I am already stressed and haven’t even started my day yet! So, enough is enough. I need to do something and simplify my daily, organization routine to beautify our home.

4 Simple Organization Tips for the Home

In the past, every time I start organizing I end up overwhelmed. I plan to thoroughly clean the entire house from top to bottom, inside-out, and instead of accomplishing my “to-do’s,” I become exhausted and cranky. And the vicious cycle continues. So, this time I made a plan and stuck to it, promising myself to not head to the farmer’s market or any stores until I fully cleaned and organized our home.

  1. Simplify
Instead of trying to clean the whole house, I plan out a routine, starting with the easiest room to the hardest. That way I see the progress of checking boxes off my to-do list instead of becoming discouraged at all the things I don’t accomplish. And I limit my organization to-do list to only five items a day, which is way more realistic.
  2. Moving Boxes
I get new, clean moving boxes from Walmart which cost less than a dollar for the small ones and less than $3 for the big ones. I use one for every room depending on the size, boxing up stuff I am not quite ready to let go just yet, and boxing up others to donate.
  3. Containers
Don’t not shy away from containers, jars, and well…more containers. Your local Dollar Store has dollar jar containers that are great for the kitchen and dollar bins and baskets perfect for the bathroom. Yes, we need to organize, and no, we will not spend too much. Just be creative, and check ideas from Pinterest!
  4. Redecorate
The perks of living in Portland when you are into home organization and decorating is that there are numerous local boutiques around your area. I live in the Southwest and love going around town checking out small businesses, and I always find something that is just perfect for my home.

After a few weeks of planning and thoroughly cleaning, arranging, organizing, and decluttering our home, I am no longer stressed out every morning trying to find what I need. Instead of feeling annoyed and irritated each morning, I have more time to sit back and gather my thoughts before tackling another busy day! And instead of cleaning on the weekends, I have more time to spend with my family!
