Besides Valentine’s Day, February is often a month we’d rather speed through quickly. It’s still winter, still cold, and still raining; sometimes it’s a blessing that it’s the shortest month of the year. Luckily, there’s still plenty to do around Rose City, and we have a round-up of some of our favorite family-friendly options to keep you entertained through the rest of the rainy winter days.
Princess Promenade (Feb 1)
Now in its fifth year, this Daddy Daughter Dance is growing in popularity each year! Music, snacks, face painting, a few real princesses, and, of course, dancing for girls in grades K-8 and their fathers, guardians, or male relatives. This year, there will be professional hairstyles on site offering $10, 15-minute sessions. More details available on their website!
Portland Winter Light Festival (Feb 6-8)
To encourage folks to get out in dark (and cold!) evenings, The Portland Winter Light Festival is a family-friendly art and light adventure. With its main gallery near OMSI, this year’s edition will take place at multiple locations; check out their website for specifics. Admission is free for guests and worth the visit!
Valentine’s Market at Oaks Park Pavillion
Head to Oaks Park for the inaugural edition of the Valentine’s Market, an artisan-focused event with a family focus. Kids are welcome, VIP tickets include drinks and an oyster bar! More info on vendors and ticket options on the event Facebook page.
KidFest NW (Feb 29-Mar 1)
Called “The Whopper of All Family Fests,” KidFest returns to the Portland Expo Center for a weekend of sports, enrichment, activities, performances and more! This annual event is a one-stop-shop for all things kids in PDX, which means there is something for everyone. Reptile exhibit, rock climbing, character visits, art centers… the list goes on! Find out more about the event on their website or follow the event on Facebook.
Bricks Cascade Lego Expo (Feb 29-Mar 1)
Be dazzled by some of the wildest Lego creations you have ever seen! Head to the Oregon Convention Center for the two-day Lego bonanza; fun for kids and grown-ups alike! More information on the event page on Facebook.
Community Events Calendar
Our events calendar features community-submitted events from organizations and businesses throughout the Portland area who offer family-friendly activities. Each event is reviewed by a member of the PMB team prior to publication. If you have an event or activity that you think would be of interest to our readers, please complete your submission here for review.
This play group is a “RIE-style” play group, which means the adults will sit back and observe the infants play in a safe, well-curated environment with developmentally appropriate, open-ended materials. Then, we will have a conversation about what we observed and have an opportunity to discuss questions you may have about parenting and child development. The pace will feel slow, peaceful, meditative. Facilitated by an Infant and Toddler Education Specialist
