Finding My Extra Hour with ClickList and Fred Meyer

2

Are you busy? Well of course you are; it’s how we do motherhood in this culture, right? My own busyness (and resulting craziness) has had me on a quest this year to find some time savers that will help me and my family without breaking the bank.

I quickly determined that fixing my lack of time problem is not something I can achieve with one sweeping change. I have to look at it in small increments. An hour here…or even five minutes there. The truth is, if I could get even one hour back in my week, it would make me a happier, healthier, more sane person. So when I was promised an hour back through a convenient service at one of our local retailers, I rather desperately said…SIGN ME UP NOW!

{This post is sponsored by ClickList–currently available in nine local Fred Meyer locations. We love to partner with trusted businesses who make life easier for busy families, and I am personally excited to share my first of what will be many experiences with this service.}

Shopping from my living room couch

In a nutshell, ClickList works like this: I shop online for over 40,000 items available in-store, including fresh meat and produce. Then, I confirm my order and select a pick-up date and time. Finally, I pick up and pay for my items at the store (with credit or debit card), all without leaving my vehicle! Now for my personal experience…

Ordering online

I signed up at FredMeyer.com, selected my preferred store and proceeded to fill my cart. The entire process the first time around took about 20 min. But now with my account set up–and because all my regularly purchased items get saved in my Favorites–I can place my orders in about five minutes if I know what I need.

Order pickup

Listen up moms (and dads and busy people everywhere)…it was SO easy! I pulled up to the clearly marked order pickup area, and an employee named Tammy promptly brought out my order–all while my son napped in the backseat, completely unaware that mom was getting her errand completed. Tammy’s customer service impressed me in every way. Seeing that this was my first order, she explained several things to me about my order, and even gave me some great money saving and couponing tips.

Product quality

Did Fred Meyer and ClickList honor their commitment of keeping quality and freshness top of mind when filling my order? The short answer is yes. Truthfully, I was tempted to skip including fresh produce in my order because I wasn’t sure what quality I’d get by not picking items out myself, but since I knew I’d be reviewing the service here (which no one involved with my order knew), I went for it. And I was definitely satisfied with both my produce and meat (and this from a gal who generally spends WAY too long picking out her avocados).

The cost…the savings

ClickList is just $4.95 per order (fee waived for your first three orders). Worth it to me, but beyond that I know I can also save that and more with Tammy’s coupon tips and by sticking to my list and avoiding in-store impulse buys.

My One Extra Hour Wish List

My favorite part of this experience was getting to think about what I would do with my extra hour each week–and then actually doing it! Here were my ideas:

  • Read a book
  • Exercise
  • Play a game with my kids
  • Try a new recipe
  • Get a massage (I’ve had that gift card for over a year)
  • Power nap
  • A date night in with my husband

And here’s what I decided on for my hour:

For me, a book, chocolate ice cream, and a sunny window make up the perfect recipe to restore sanity. I will tell you moments like this are an extreme rarity for me in my current stage of life. However, I’m trying to change that, and thankful that ClickList had a part in making this moment a reality!

Now, before you sign up and place your order, tell us… What would you do with one extra hour after completing your shopping with ClickList?

Jen is a Type A introvert who is continually learning {in large part as a result of motherhood} that she can’t control it all and that everything is better with chocolate. After spending most of her life in Minnesota, she made Portland home a couple of years ago along with her New York native husband, Phil, and their lovely littles, Connor (November 2010) and Brielle (April 2013). Jen quickly fell in love with Oregon and, along with her family, is determined to explore all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. At their current stage of family life, she and her hubby give every adventure a 50/50 shot of succeeding without a child {or parent} meltdown.
